As part of Hailey Hall’s commitment with our Year 11 pupils regarding their Post 16 education and career pathway support, Pete Gregory, Careers’ Advisor, had arranged for Post Graduate students from Hertfordshire County Council to assist in Mock interview training.
Because of Covid, Hailey Hall was unable to repeat last year’s scenarios which involved face to face interviews but with support from the graduates, we arranged for this to be done virtually on TEAMS.
Pupils were split into 4 groups of 3 and paired with an interviewer who had been given a brief profile of the pupil’s interests with Post 16 destination options.
Each group came into the Learning Development Centre (LDC) and, in front of a large white interactive whiteboard, were spoken to by Kyle from HCC with 3 colleagues, Eden, Lucy and Jenny.
The pupils were shown a “Top Ten Tips” guide and good practices regarding interviews. Two of the graduates then played out a Mock interview role-play scenario to show how it could go.
After this, the pupils then went to individual laptops with headphones and Mics and engaged with a member of staff from HCC.
Our pupils then engaged as if it was a College interview. This was repeated so that all the pupils had a chance to practice their new skills.
At the end of the interview, the pupils were given individual feedback as to what they had done and all pupils received positive praise for their engagement and interview skills.
Later in the day 2 pupils had live interviews with Harlow college regarding their applications and the feedback from Chelsie Keighley (SEND support) was as follows:
“They both have been a pleasure to interview this evening; they conducted themselves very well and should be proud of themselves”.
