The Bridge
The Bridge is a bespoke provision for students with complex multiple needs, typically SEMH
combined with ASD and Communication and interaction.
These often include extreme levels of anxiety, sensory difficulties, significant gaps in learning, other mental health disorders, significant difficulties with emotional regulation, social interaction, and ASD/C.
What we do:
The Bridge aims to meet the needs of pupils that currently cannot access the full school community or curriculum by:
- Improving their academic outcomes through an individualised timetable
- Creating a low-stimulation environment to help reduce anxiety and improve school attendance.
- Providing low-stakes social settings which aim to promote pro social behaviours and language.
- Measured reintegration back into the main school, based on progress, needs and interests of the individuals.
- Introduction of Zones of regulation to help pupils manage their own needs and communicate their feelings more effectively with peers and staff.
Our Space:
The Bridge provides 3 individual spaces within an area of the school. The first space acts as a low arousal classroom, the second as a breakout base for individual learning to take place and the third an inclusive family style kitchen-diner to support independence skills and enhance the sense of community within the group.
The pupils will primarily be based here for their day to ensure a predictable and structured environment is maintained to reduce anxieties. There will be opportunities for pupils to have exposure at their own pace to individual lessons (such as Food Technology, PE etc) and join the whole school community for lunch time and enrichment sessions.
